Briefly: Cartel, Wyclef Jean, Bob Marley, Keith Murray, Ozzy Osbourne
The members of rock band Cartel --who have been living in a "bubble" placed at Hudson River Park's Pier 54 in New York City as part of a Dr. Pepper-sponsored promotion that allows fans and passersby to watch the group working on its new album--were dealt a blow last night (6/3) when the glass wall sealing the front of the structure shattered during a fierce rainstorm.
The band will continue to live in the now-repaired structure while working on the follow-up to its debut 2006 set, "Chroma." The new material will premiere during a June 12 concert event on the pier that will cap the group's stay in the bubble.
More information, including a live video stream from the "bubble," is posted at Dr. Pepper's Band in a Bubble website.
AllHipHop.com reports that Wyclef Jean will enter the "bubble" on Thursday (6/7) to produce a cut for Cartel 's forthcoming album.
Island Records is marking the 30th anniversary of "Exodus," widely considered late reggae legend Bob Marley 's masterpiece, by re-releasing the set in several different formats and configurations.
The set is available as a limited-edition USB memory stick, which houses the original 10-track album, along with bonus audio and video content, including three video tracks recorded at London's Rainbow Theatre in June 1977.
Starting today (6/4), the set is available via Marley's website in the form of a 30th anniversary edition CD that contains the original 10 tracks; a deluxe CD/DVD that includes the album on audio CD and a separate DVD featuring 12 tracks recorded at London's Rainbow Theatre in June 1977; a vinyl replica of the original album; an a USB memory stick that features the 10 original cuts and three video tracks recorded at the Rainbow Theatre.
Marley recorded "Exodus" in London after fleeing his native Jamaica following an assassination attempt.
Koch Records has announced a July 31 release date for "Rap-Murr-Phobia (Fear of Real Hip Hop)," the forthcoming album from Keith Murray . The set includes guest appearances from Tyrese, Method Man and Murray's Def Squad bandmates, Redman and Erick Sermon. Sermon also executive produced the collection, which features the leadoff single "Nobody Do It Better" (featuring Tyrese and Junior.
Murray plans to tour in "all major markets" this summer, according to Koch.
The first US edition of "Black Rain," the latest album from Ozzy Osbourne , was packaged using recycled paper with no booklet included; fans who own a copy of the disc can download the extras and lyrics that would have appeared in such a booklet by visiting Osbourne's website.
