Muse lays in American dates close to Lollapalooza
British alt-rockers Muse continue to build steam behind their latest album, last year's "Black Holes and Revelations," with a busy slate of European festivals followed by an American tour.
The progressive pop trio continues its European run Saturday (6/9) with an appearance at the UK's Isle of Wight festival, followed by another month's worth of shows overseas. The North American shows kick off Aug. 1 in Mississauga, Ontario.
The American leg comprises nine dates built around the band's Aug. 4 appearance at Chicago's Lollapalooza festival; the complete North American itinerary is included below, and the group's European schedule can be glimpsed at its official website.
"Black Holes and Revelations," which hit stores last July, is Muse's follow-up to 2003's "Absolution," the group's breakthrough in this country. The band is considered a major act (and often compared to the likes of Radiohead) in its homeland, where "Black Holes" hit No. 1 on the UK album charts.
"We went from playing these massive arenas in Europe to playing to 200 people in some pokey hole [in the US] again," guitarist/vocalist Matthew Bellamy said in a press release. "That's the price of getting too comfortable on large stages. But it was good to be treated like a new band over there and get that feeling of being discovered again."
The band has released a new "tour edition" of "Black Holes," which includes a DVD containing six videos of songs from the album, half of them live versions shot at various venues during the past few years.
