The Reverend heats up fall
Psychobilly kings The Reverend Horton Heat will be out and about through the fall with dates that cover the Midwest and Eastern US.
The band, which appears to be taking a break from the road this month and next, will pick up again Aug. 3 in Dallas and play through the mid-August with Murder by Death opening. In September, the Rev has a four-show run in Texas, including the Austin City Limits Festival, and then starts a tour of the East in early November with Nashville Pussy and Hank III & Assjack in the opening slots.
More dates are on the way, according to the band's website. Confirmed shows are listed below.
During its more than 20-year career, The Reverend Horton Heat has built a cult following with its country-flavored punkabilly, onstage antics and hard-charging work ethic.
The trio--comprising guitarist/vocalist Jim Heath, upright bassist Jimbo Wallace and drummer Paul Simmons--released its last proper studio album, "Revival," in 2004. That was followed in 2005 by the band's first-ever Christmas album, "We Three Kings," which was included in USA Today's list of the season's "most notable offerings."
Last year, Interscope Records, which worked with the Rev in the '90s, released a 15-song best-of set titled "20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Reverend Horton Heat." The band's current label, Yep Roc, said it hopes to release a new Rev album this year. A rep from the company also said late last year that there were plans for a Reverend Horton Heat cover album--"Taking Cover From the Heat"--with artists including Jello Biafra, Hank III and Th' Legendary Shack*Shakers doing classic Rev songs.
Meanwhile, Heath recently put out a new album out with his side project, Rev. Organdrum, which has five-time Grammy-winner Tim Alexander on Hammond organ and Todd Soesbe on drums. According to a posting at Reverend Horton Heat's website, the Rev. Organdrum album "is something completely different than what you're used to, but kicks ass just the same."
