Briefly: LL Cool J, Tim McGraw, Stack Bundles, Eddie Money
Despite widespread reports to the contrary, rap icon LL Cool J has not scrapped his summer concert plans.
Word surfaced Monday (6/11) that LL had supposedly canceled a July 20 performance at the Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay, Jamaica, with event organizers issuing a press release in which they said that they had "been advised by LL Cool J's management that, due to a family problem, the star was forced to cancel all his summer dates."
LL's management firm, Violator, has since issued a press release that claims the rapper will, in fact, make his July 20 appearance in Jamaica, along with a July 5 show at the House of Blues in Atlantic City and a July 7 show at the Beau Rivage Resort in Biloxi, MS.
Additional shows are in the works, according to Violator.
Tim McGraw has deliverd to radio stations a remixed, newly mastered recording of "If You're Reading This," a previously unreleased song that was taped during his performance at last month's Academy of Country Music Awards ceremony. The song is a tribute to the families of fallen soldiers.
"I want to thank Dick Clark Productions, the Academy of Country Music and Curb Records for working with us to make this happen," McGraw's manager, Scott Siman, said in a press release. "It's clear that all Americans have responded to this song and it is fitting that we were all able to work together quickly to release this record. I have had a lot of industry people ask why Tim would choose to do something other than his current single on an awards show. I think it takes a true artist with vision to look beyond the status quo and see what might exist by stretching the boundaries."
Up-and-coming rapper Stack Bundles --real name Rayquon Elliot--was killed early yesterday (6/11) in the Queens borough of New York City, according to published reports. Elliot, 24, who had worked with artists including Fabolous and DJ Clue, reportedly was shot in the head and neck; police are trying to determine if the unidentified shooter stole a chain from Elliot.
Veteran rocker Eddie Money --whose latest album, "Wanna Go Back," surfaced in March--has teamed with SafeMedia Corp. to speak out against illegal file sharing.
"Music piracy is illegal and extremely detrimental to all of those who make a living creating original musical works," Money said in a press release. "If you truly like music, don't steal it. Support the industry by downloading your music legally."
According to SafeMedia, more than $2 billion worth of music and more than $20 billion worth of movie content was downloaded illegally last year. The Florida-based company claims to have developed technology--dubbed "Clouseau"--that "makes it impossible to send or receive illegal peer-to-peer transmissions," according to a press release.
