Jimmy Eat World chases new album, tour

Pop-punk band Jimmy Eat World is doing a short US tour next month, just ahead of releasing its long-awaited fifth full-length album.

The 12-date jaunt will start July 18 in Albuquerque, NM, and hit theaters around the country, wrapping in Jimmy Eat World's hometown of Mesa, AZ, Aug. 3. Details are listed below.

Frontman Jim Adkins recently told The Arizona Republic that the band chose small and midsize venues on purpose, since most of its touring behind 2004's "Futures" consisted of large arenas and half-hour sets opening for Green Day.

"We wanted places where we could fan out and play some of the more mellow stuff," Adkins told the paper. "I wouldn't say we're doing a straight-up acoustic tour, but it's going to be a lot less rocking and a lot more textural."

Following its US trek, Jimmy Eat World will head to Europe for a handful of festival shows. Those dates can be found at the band's website.

Jimmy Eat World has spent more than a year working on its forthcoming album, "Chase This Light." In a May 27 posting at the band's website labeled "Done! Sort of," Adkins declares the set recorded and says mixing is under way.

"I can't wait to show you guys what we have been doing for the last year," he said. "We have learned a lot making this album and, hopefully, we will not take so long between records again."

"Chase This Light," due in September, was engineered and co-produced by Grammy winner Chris Testa (Dixie Chicks), according to the Republic. Producer Butch Vig (Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins) also worked on the set.
