Wilco tacks new leg onto 'Sky Blue Sky' trek
Wilco has announced plans for a new tour leg later this summer as the band continues to support its latest studio album, "Sky Blue Sky."
The Chicagoans will tackle the fresh slate of shows beginning Aug. 14 in Duluth, MN, with 11 new cities on the schedule, which primarily centers on West Coast and Pacific Northwest venues. The group is currently finishing up the first leg of "Sky Blue Sky" dates and is scheduled to play tonight (6/19) in Atlanta. The itinerary is included below.
"Sky Blue Sky," which hit stores May 15, is Wilco's follow-up to 2004's "A Ghost is Born." The album is currently streaming in its entirety at the group's website.
The band endured a bit of controversy earlier this year when a marketing deal with Volkswagen to use songs from "Sky Blue Sky" in the automaker's commercials prompted outcries from some of the group's fans.
"With the commercial radio airplay route getting more difficult for many bands (including Wilco), we see this as another way to get the music out there," the band said in an early June statement posted at its website. "As with most of the above (with the debatable exception of radio) the band gets paid for this. And we feel okay about VWs. Several of us even drive them."
