New 3-CD Bob Dylan retrospective to hit stores in October
With the start of his summer tour just days away, rock legend Bob Dylan has announced plans to release a career-spanning retrospective later this year.
Simply titled "Dylan," the three-disc set's still-incomplete tracklist will be "greatly influenced by impassioned fan lobbying" at the collection's website, according to Dylan's longtime record label, Columbia. The career overview will feature 51 songs "spanning five decades," the label said.
The retrospective, which is due in stores Oct. 1, will also be made available in a streamlined, 18-song, single-disc version, which will also carry the same title. A deluxe edition will consist of the 3-CD version enclosed in a cloth-covered case, with an extended liner-notes booklet and 10 limited-edition postcards included inside.
In the meantime, Dylan is gearing up to kick off his summer trek Friday (6/22) in Atlantic City, the first of 24 cities the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will hit on the outing. The full schedule is included below.
Following his US summer tour, Dylan will head across the ocean for an August tour of Australia and New Zealand; the singer/songwriter's full overseas schedule can be found at his official website.
Last year, Dylan offered up "Modern Times," his first new studio set since 2001's "Love and Theft." The 2006 disc, which is the folk legend's 44th album, features 10 new Dylan originals he recorded with his touring band: guitarists Stu Kimball and Denny Freeman, multi-instrumentalist Donnie Herron, bassist Tony Garnier and drummer George Recile. Dylan sang and played keyboards, guitars and harmonica.
A new Dylan composition, "Hucks Tune," turned up recently on the "Lucky You" soundtrack, which hit stores in April ahead of the film's May release. The album also features new recordings from Bonnie Raitt, Kris Kristofferson and actress Drew Barrymore, who stars in the film, as well as previously released material from Bruce Springsteen, Ryan Adams and Liza Minnelli.
