"We have been disturbed by the stories that continue to surface about the medical care being received by our returning servicemen and women," the petition reads, in part. "Supporting our troops entails providing them with the complete, timely and excellent care for injuries they sustained during their military service, at the very least. Providing this care is a moral obligation for our nation and should be our highest priority at home."
The petition aims to have the Secretary of Defense "formally report in detail to the American public on each of the issues raised in these allegations and confirm that all of our servicemen and women are receiving the medical benefits they have rightfully earned.
"This war has many tragedies; we want to do whatever we can to make sure this is not another one," the group added.
Capitol/EMI has announced plans to mark Pink Floyd 's 40th anniversary by issuing a special edition of the group's 1967 album, "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn." Due out Aug. 28, the revamped set will come in the form of a 3-CD package that will include mono and stereo mixes of the original album, as well as the band's 1967 singles and previously unreleased and rare bonus tracks, according to a press release.
Latin sensations Shakira and Enrique Iglesias have added their names to the lengthy list of artists scheduled to perform as part of the July 7 Live Earth concert in Hamburg.
"Live Earth is about engaging a mass movement of people to take action against the climate crisis," Live Earth Founder and Producer Kevin Wall said. "The addition of internationally popular music acts like Enrique Iglesias and Shakira will help us reach millions of people across the globe."
The full lineup for Live Earth--which comprises massive concerts in eight cities around the globe during a 24-hour period--is posted at the event's website. The site also features ticketing information.
Rockers Atreyu have announced an Aug. 28 release date for their Hollywood Records debut, "Lead Sails Paper Anchor." The group plans to preview material from the disc during its pre-release stint aboard this summer's Family Values Tour , according to a press release.
