Sammy Hagar lives it up with tour into next year

Sammy Hagar is planning a major tour set to launch in October at his annual birthday bash in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

The cross-country trek is expected to hit 60 cities with a finale July 12, 2008, in St. Louis, MO, according to a press release. The shows will open with former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony 's Mad Anthony Express performing early VH numbers and rock classics followed by Hagar's Los Tres Gusanos playing the Red Rocker's early songs. Hagar and Anthony will then take the stage together as The Other Half (of Van Halen), playing VH tunes from the Hagar era.

The singer/guitarist also intends to stuff his Cabo Wabo Village into the indoor venues on the outing. The Village--with its bikini-clad girls, body builders, mariachi bands, contests and other attractions-- accompanied Hagar on last summer's outdoor Livin' It Up! Tour.

Dates have not yet been revealed, but details are expected to be announced shortly at Hagar's website. Meanwhile, the singer has a couple of gigs on the books in September; those are listed below.

Sammy Hagar and the Wabos continue to support last year's "Livin' It Up!" album, which comprises party covers like Toby Keith's "I Love This Bar" and Kenny Chesney's "One Sip," along with originals including "Sam I Am" and "Living on a Coastline."

Last week, the band released its "Livin' It Up! In St. Louis" DVD, which includes live footage from last year's show as well as interviews, tour footage and music videos.

Hagar was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March for his work with Van Halen and he said the upcoming tour is part of the celebration.

"The honor of being inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame is simply awesome; it's been a great year all around and I feel like celebrating, which of course means rockin' out," Hagar said in a statement. "I just have to figure out how to squeeze an outdoor show into an indoor venue, but I'll get it done. It's going to be one red-hot, kick ass fiesta."

In addition to the tour, the rocker is scheduled to release his new single, "Open," to radio on July 2. The song will also be available for download on iTunes.

Between his solo career, his early stint with Ronnie Montrose and his years with Van Halen, Hagar's record sales have exceed 60 million, according to a press release. When he's not wearing his rock-star hat, the singer spends time running his Cabo Wabo Cantina nightclub and Cabo Wabo brand tequila business. He announced earlier this year that he was selling 80% of his stake in the tequila business to Gruppo Campari , a major spirits company, for $80 million.
