Briefly: Rage Against the Machine, Maroon 5, Kool & The Gang, Andre 3000
The duration of Rage Against the Machine's reunion--originally couched as a temporary, four-gig endeavor--continues to expand, with the reunited rockers reportedly booked for this October's Vegoose festival.
According to Billboard, Rage is one of the acts slated to headline the third-annual installment of the Las Vegas-based Vegoose, which, as previously reported, is scheduled to take place Oct. 27-28. Organizers have not made any official announcements about the lineup.
If confirmed, Rage's appearance would be the latest in a string of reunion shows that began with the group's April performance at California's Coachella Music Festival, its first since frontman Zack de la Rocha left in 2000. The band initially said that its Coachella set and its upcoming trio of July and August performances--part of the Rock the Bells hip-hop festival--would be the extent of its concert schedule. Since then, the rap-rock quartet has booked an Aug. 24 headlining show in Alpine Valley, WI; and signed on to appear at the late-October Voodoo Music Festival in New Orleans.
"It Won't Be Soon Before Long," the sophomore album from alt-rockers Maroon 5 , has been certified platinum, signifying shipment of 1 million copies, a feat accomplished in less than three weeks. Released May 22, the set debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 chart after selling about 429,000 copies its first week out.
"The early success of the record is amazing, we're all really proud of this album and happy that people are going out to buy it so quickly," Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine said in a statement.
Veteran act Kool & The Gang has announced a July 10 release date for "Still Kool," the group's first new album in a decade. In a press release, New Door Records and Universal Music Enterprises describes the forthcoming set as "combining soulful R&B, pop, hip-hop, Urban AC and more," and showcasing "the extraordinary versatility that has won them the status of musical icons--while venturing into new sonic territory in collaboration with some talented proteges." Several tracks from the album are streaming at Kool & The Gang's MySpace webpage.
Andre "3000" Benjamin--best known as one half of hip-hop duo OutKast --has put together a 14-song soundtrack spawned from "Class of 3000," a Cartoon Network series he co-created, and for which he serves as both co-executive producer and the voice of one of the program's characters. Titled "Class of 3000: Music Volume One," the album is due in stores July 3.
