ZZ Top gets set for summer outing
ZZ Top , which toured the US in March and April, is gearing up to launch the next leg of its North American trek.
That Little Ol' Band from Texas will return to the road July 14 in Woodlands, TX. The blues-rockers will make their way across the US through September, with a stop in Vancouver, British Columbia, along the way. The bulk of the dates are a triple bill with the Stray Cats and The Pretenders. The itinerary is included below.
Originally, ZZ Top also had a European tour on the books this summer, but those plans were canceled because bassist/singer Dusty Hill is undergoing treatment for a benign growth in his inner ear, according to the Associated Press. The musician's doctor said preliminary plans do not include surgery. The treatment is not expected to affect the North American dates.
ZZ Top hit the pavement last spring following a year-long break from the road and some major business changes. The band split with its longtime manager, Bill Ham, and ended its 14-year tenure with RCA Records.
Hill recently told Billboard the group is anxious to sign a new label deal and get a new album under way, but there's no telling how long that will take. In the meantime, there is talk of a concert DVD.
ZZ Top's most recent studio album, "Mescalero," was released in 2003. The group followed that in 2004 with the two-disc hits collection, "Rancho Texicano: The Very Best of ZZ Top."
Formed in 1969, ZZ Top is one of very few rock-and-roll bands with its original members sill intact after three decades. The trio--Hill, vocalist/guitarist Billy Gibbons and drummer Frank Beard--was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.
