Megadeth's 'Tour of Duty'
Megadeth has nailed down the US leg of its "Tour of Duty" outing, which will take the veteran metal band through 24 cities from coast to coast.
The trek kicks off Sept. 4 in Anchorage, AK, and stops at clubs and music halls across the country, with an Oct. 6 finale in Norfolk, VA. Metalcore bands In This Moment and The Confession will open the shows, which are listed below.
Ticket pre-sales start tomorrow (7/11) for MegaFanClub members, and the general on-sale begins Friday (7/13).
Megadeth launched a world tour earlier this year to support its 11th studio album, the politically charged "United Abominations," which surfaced in March. The set debuted at No. 8 on The Billboard 200, making it the rockers' highest debut since 1994's "Youthanasia," according to a press release.
"Metal needs a really good old-school record again," frontman Dave Mustaine said in a statement. "I believe I have delivered."
A few songs from the set, including the single "Washington is Next," are streaming at Megadeth's MySpace page.
"United Abominations," Megadeth's debut on Roadrunner Records, found Mustaine entering the studio with an entirely different group of musicians for the third time in as many albums. Guitarist Glen Drover, drummer Shawn Drover and bassist James Lomenzo round out the current lineup.
The record is the first new set of Megadeth material since 2004's "The System Has Failed," which marked a comeback after Mustaine suffered a serious injury in 2002.
