Superdrag's original lineup reunites for fall shows
Punk-pop outfit Superdrag has announced that it will reunite for a short run of shows this fall and possibly more to come, confirming rumors that have been circulating among the group's fans.
"I'm thrilled to be able to announce these concert appearances with the original band," frontman John Davis wrote in a message posted July 10 on the band's website. "I have missed playing these songs with these three dudes. At the first rehearsal, I remember thinking it sounded to me like it might've been eight months instead of eight years since we'd played together last. We're really looking forward to seeing you at the shows."
The Tennessee-based group--which hasn't been active as a unit since touring behind its 2002 release, "Last Call for Vitriol"--will kick off the brief outing Oct. 5 in Nashville, with shows to follow in Chicago, New York, Boston, Washington, DC, and Knoxville, TN. Presale tickets are available through the band's official website.
The road toward Superdrag's breakup was paved by the 1999 departure of bassist Tom Pappas, who left to form the power trio Flesh Vehicle. Pappas' replacement, Sam Powers, appeared on the band's final two albums before he left in 2003, prompting the remaining members to put the group on extended hiatus.
The reunion was preceded in March by the band's release of "Changin' Tires on the Road to Ruin," a 14-track collection of demos, outtakes and live material.
