Michael Bolton swings through North America

July 13, 2007 07:07 PM
Michael Bolton , who is in the midst of a UK tour, will make his way back around to North America in August for a run of dates that stretches through mid-November.

The blue-eyed soul singer is scheduled to start with an Aug. 21 gig in Ottawa, Ontario, before hitting cities all over the eastern half of the US. He'll also squeeze in the Nov. 4 St. Lucia Food & Rum Festivale in Pigeon Island, St. Lucia, West Indies. North American shows are listed below.

Bolton continues to support last year's "Bolton Swings Sinatra," on which the performer fulfills his dream of recording Sinatra classics including "New York, New York," "Night and Day," "My Funny Valentine" and "Fly Me to the Moon." The set features a big band with 17 horns and 35 string players. It also includes a duet with Bolton's fiancee, "Desperate Housewives" actress Nicolette Sheridan, on the tune "The Second Time Around."

The Sinatra collection follows Bolton's 2005 set, "'Til The End of Forever," which houses seven studio recordings alongside 11 hits recorded live.

During his career, Bolton has sold more than 53 million records and found himself on the pop, R&B and classical charts. He has sung with Luciano Pavarotti and Ray Charles, written songs with Bob Dylan and traded guitar licks with B.B. King, according to his bio. The Grammy-winning performer has also found his share of success writing for an array of other artists--everyone from Barbra Streisand to KISS. His efforts have earned him several songwriter awards from various organizations.

Although he's been criticized for covering R&B classics like Otis Redding's "Dock of the Bay" and Percy Sledge's "When a Man Loves A Woman," Bolton was the only white artist to be invited to perform at Motown's 35th Anniversary gala, according to his bio.

When he's not making music, the singer stays busy with his Michael Bolton Charities organization, through which he's created a United Negro College Fund scholarship and a music class for the Harlem Boys and Girls Choir. He is also a noted activist for women's rights worldwide and has testified before Congress as a champion of The Violence Against Women Act.
