Queens of the Stone Age extend 'Era' tour
The tour--so named both for one of the group's tour stops in August and its intention to first hit smaller markets in the country this time around--now includes a Canadian leg in late August and a Southeastern swing in September.
The outing kicks off July 22 in Costa Mesa, CA, and the band has already telegraphed a "secret" Los Angeles club show following the tour's July 23 stop in Bakersfield, CA. Fans who email the band during the Bakersfield show will receive information on the unpublicized stop. More information can be found on the band's website. The group's declassified itinerary is included below.
Released June 12, "Era Vulgaris" is the Palm Desert, CA-based band's fifth official studio release, and second since frontman and founder Josh Homme relieved longtime bassist Nick Oliveri of duties just prior to recording 2005's "Lullabies to Paralyze."
The band's frequently shuffling lineup (Homme is the only remaining original member) continues to shuffle on the latest set, with bassist Michael Shuman and keyboardist Dean Fertita replacing Alain Johannes and Natasha Shneider, respectively, on the current tour.
As has become the norm for a Queens of the Stone Age release, "Vulgaris" is packed with guest vocalists. This time around, Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, Julian Casablancas of The Strokes, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top and Mark Lanegan (who was an on-off member of the band from 2001 until last year) all contributed their pipes in the recording studio.
