More honors, shows for Tony Bennett
Tony Bennett has added some make-up dates and a few other shows to his tour itinerary, which takes the legendary crooner all over the US through the end of the year.
In April, Bennett was forced to cancel several concerts due to a bout with the flu. He's scheduled to make up dates in Las Vegas, Cleveland and Columbus, OH, in September and October. Since last check, he's also added a second two-night stand in Vegas, double shots in New York City and Atlantic City, and gigs in Myannis, MA, and Charleston, WV. Details are listed below.
Bennett, who turns 81 next month, celebrated his landmark birthday last year with an album of superstar duets. On "Tony Bennett: Duets/An American Classic," the singer shares the mic with Paul McCartney, Barbra Streisand, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Sting, Bono, Billy Joel, James Taylor, George Michael, Celine Dion, Elvis Costello, Dixie Chicks, Tim McGraw, k.d. lang, Diana Krall, Michael Buble, Juanes and John Legend. Trumpeter Chris Botti and violinist Pinchas Zukerman are also guests on the record, which debuted at No. 3 on The Billboard 200.
The album scored three Grammys earlier this year, bringing Bennett's career total up to 16, including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
Apparently, his duet with Wonder left quite an impression on Bennett, and the two reportedly are putting the final touches on a duets album featuring just the two of them, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Meanwhile, the kudos keep rolling in. Today (7/20), the television special "Target Presents Tony Bennett: An American Classic" scored eight Prime-time Emmy nominations including Outstanding Individual Performance for Bennett. The special, which aired on NBC last November, featured the crooner performing with many of the singers on his duets album in addition to narrative segments highlighting his career.
Bennett, who has sold more than 50 million albums over six decades, shows no signs of slowing down--in his professional or personal life. Last month, the octogenarian married his longtime girlfriend, 47-year-old Susan Crow, after dating her for 18 years.
