Eminem Tops Album Chart
Eminem 's "The Marshall Mathers LP," released on May 23, is poised to knock Britney Spears ' "Oops … I Did It Again" from the No. 1 spot on Thursday's (6/1) Billboard Top 200 album chart. According to Interscope Records, "Marshall Mathers" sold roughly 1.76 million albums in its first week.
Spears' "Oops" will move into the No. 2 spot on the Billboard chart, followed by matchbox twenty's new album "Mad Season" at No. 3, A Perfect Circle 's debut "Mer de Noms" at No. 4 and 'N Sync's "No Strings Attached" at No. 5.
Eminem 's controversial new album also claims the record for the second-largest seven-day sales totals. Spears' "Oops" had held that title, selling 1.3 million copies the week of its May 16 release. 'N Sync's "No Strings Attached" holds the record for the largest seven-day sales totals, with 2.4 million units sold during the week of its release last March.
In addition, a spokesperson for Interscope said that "Marshal Mathers" now boasts the biggest first-week sales of any rap album--topping Snoop Dogg's 1993 release "Doggystyle"--and has also broken the record for the best first-week sales by a solo artist.
Eminem will begin touring in support of his new album on June 15. He is one of several acts on the bill for Dr.Dre's "Up In Smoke" tour.
