Santana Firms Up Second Leg Of North American Tour
Venues and ticket on-sale dates have been announced for the second leg of Santana’s North American tour, which will run from late September through October. The 16 new cities on the itinerary are in the western half of the U.S. and Canada.
Everlast , who appears on Santana’s “Supernatural” album, will be on the bill for three of the tour's Southern California shows (Sept. 14 and 15 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and Sept. 15 at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Irvine), but support acts in other cities couldn’t be confirmed by press time.
Santana is touring Europe through June 14. The first leg of the North American tour, featuring Macy Gray in the opening slot, opens on July 20 in Florida. It runs for a month and will cover the eastern U.S., as well as parts of the Midwest and Canada.
The Santana single “Maria Maria,” which features Product G&B, has been at No. 1 on the Billboard singles chart for 10 weeks running, the longest stint at No. 1 of any single this year. Last year, the Grammy-winning single “Smooth” (featuring matchbox twenty’s Rob Thomas on vocals) spent 12 weeks at No. 1, longer than any other 1999 single.
Twelve million copies of Santana’s “Supernatural” album have been sold in the U.S., and 20 million have been sold worldwide, according to Arista Records. The album is likely to see yet another boost on the charts next week, following a prime-time network television special that aired on Wednesday (5/31).
