Boyz II Men Single And Album On The Way, Concerts Set
A new Boyz II Men ballad titled "Pass You By" will be released to radio stations on June 9, and the groups first new album in three years, titled "Nathan Michael Shawn Wanya," will be in stores in September, according to Universal Records. The R&B group is also scheduled to play three concerts in Southern California later this month.
Boyz II Men sold more than 60 million albums worldwide during the '90s, and were named Singing Group of the Decade by Billboard. More than 12 million copies of the groups 1994 album "II" have been sold to date in the U.S.
Though the 1997 Boyz II Men album "Evolution" went double platinum, the group was reportedly unhappy with the promotional push the album received from Motown Records. At the time, Motown parent company Polygram was in the process of merging with Universal Records. The dust has since settled, and the new Boyz II Men release, which will include 14 songs, will be the groups first on the Universal label.
While recording the new album, Boyz II Men performed at several high-profile events, including a spot backing Aretha Franklin on "Freeway of Love" for the recent Arista Records 25th anniversary network television special.
The group has taped a performance of "Pass You By" for an episode of the Nickelodeon cable networks "Snick House" which will air on June 10. Other upcoming television appearances include a performance for the Childrens Miracle Network that will air on June 3 and a spot on the syndicated special "A Celebration of Black Music," which first airs on June 23.
Boyz II Men has embarked on several full-scale arena tours in the past, and is expected to line up an extensive fall concert itinerary to support the new album.
