RBD maps out US tour for fall
Latin pop group RBD resumes its world tour in September with a new US leg as the act continues to back its first English-language release, "Rebels."
The six-member Mexican ensemble--Anahi, Dulce, Maite, Alfonso, Christian and Christopher (the band members all go by only their first names)--will kick things off Sept. 28 in Chicago, with the outing hitting 12 cities, largely on the western side of the country, all of which have large Hispanic populations.
The group will knock down several one-off commitments, including Sunday's (8/5) show in Veracruz, Mexico, before launching the US tour. All of the group's North American dates are shown below.
RBD's "Rebels" debuted at No. 1 on the US Latin charts and No. 1 in Mexico, Brazil and Chile. The sextet has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide, including two million in the United States.
RBD originated in 2004 as a plot line on the Latin soap opera "Rebelde." Taking a cue from fiction, the group became reality. Their debut album, "Rebelde," launched radio hits in Mexico such as "Rebelde," "Solo Quedate en Silencio," "Salvame" and "Un Poco de Tu Amor." The album was recently designated diamond for sales of more than 500,000 copies in Mexico.
"Rebelde" wrapped in summer 2005 as Mexico's longest-running telenovela (soap opera) with 440 episodes, which continue to run in the United States, Asia, Indonesia and a dozen other countries.
