Widespread Panic nails down fall trek
Veteran jam band Widespread Panic wrapped its summer tour just over a week ago and is already gearing up for another major US trek this fall.
The group will kick off its next round of dates with a two-night stand Sept. 21-22 in Memphis, TN. Multiple shows are also booked in Oakland, CA; Seattle; Loveland, CO; Milwaukee; Nashville; and North Charleston, SC. The outing is currently scheduled to wrap Nov. 9-10 in Birmingham, AL. The itinerary is listed below.
In addition to its relentless touring schedule, Widespread Panic is said to be working on its 10th studio album, which is due this year. The set will be the band's first release with new guitarist Jimmy Herring, who replaced George McConnell last fall. McConnell had joined Panic following the 2002 cancer death of founding member Michael Houser.
The forthcoming record will follow last year's "Earth to America." That June release provided the inspiration for November's "Earth to Atlanta" double-DVD set, which captures a live show filmed at Atlanta's historic Fox Theatre. The concert was also simulcast to 115 movie theaters nationwide, drawing an audience of 60,000.
While fans wait for new Widespread Panic material, they can revisit some of the old stuff on the album "Choice Cuts: The Capricorn Years," which surfaced last month. The set features 14 songs hand-selected by the band from its stint with Capricorn Records. Several cuts from the album are streaming at Panic's MySpace page.
