Briefly: Alicia Keys, Vince Gill, Brad Paisley, Josh Groban
Alicia Keys , Common , Erykah Badu and Raphael Saadiq have all signed on to headline Heineken's upcoming Red Star Soul concert series.
The string of concerts gets underway with Saadiq's Aug. 28 performance at Cleveland's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame museum. The series also will include concerts from Common in Detroit, Atlanta and Washington, DC, on Sept. 4, Sept. 18 and Sept. 26, respectively; Badu in Chicago and Philadelphia on Sept. 13 and Oct. 3, respectively; and Alicia Keys, who will cap the series with an Oct. 23 show in New York City.
Additional details about the tour are posted at Heineken's website.
Vince Gill , Ralph Emery and Mel Tillis will join the ranks of the Country Music Hall of Fame during an invitation-only ceremony in October, the Country Music Association announced today (8/7). Emery will be inducted in the "Non-Performer" category, which is awarded once every three years; Gill will be the third artist inducted in the "Career Achieved National Prominence Between 1975 and the Present" category, which was created in 2005; and Tillis will be inducted in the "Career Achieved National Prominence Between World War II and 1975" category, according to a press release.
Brad Paisley gave an unannounced performance last night (8/6) at the US Army's Fort Campbell base in Kentucky, which was attended by more than 35,000 soldiers and family members stationed at the base, according to a press release.
"This is the most important concert I will play all year," Paisley said during his set. "We wanted to bring a little party to you before your next deployment."
Josh Groban , who last month postponed until September his planned tour stop in Charlotte, NC, has announced plans to make a "generous" donation to local music education for the students of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School.
"Music education played such an integral part in my growth musically and in so many ways that this seemed like the ideal way to thank the city and my fans for their patience and the inconvenience they experienced regarding my rescheduled date," Groban said in a prepared statement. "I'm really looking forward to returning to Charlotte and putting on an extra special show."
