Beastie Boys add 'final' dates to schedule
The Beastie Boys have added new dates to their current summer outing, but fans expecting more shows to follow might end up disappointed.
The band announced two new dates--Sept. 22 in Toronto and Sept. 26 in Chicago--in what it called "the final shows of our current '07 tour before getting back to the lab" in a press statement.
The Toronto show adds a second night for that city and continues the group's recent habit of playing two shows in each market: a traditional hip-hop show in a large venue and another instrumental-only show (which the band terms a "gala event) in a smaller theater in the same city.
The Boys are currently finishing up their August leg, which checks into Brooklyn tonight (8/9) and continues through late August, when the band jets overseas for an international leg, details for which are posted at the Beasties' website, where the band is also posting a tour diary (with pictures) describing each stop on the trek. All domestic dates are included below.
"The Mix-Up" is the Beastie Boys' first studio album since 2004's "To the 5 Boroughs," which itself emerged after a six-year gap following 1998's "Hello Nasty." The new album is the group's first instrumental-only effort since the 1996 compilation "The In Sound from Way Out."
All three Boys play instruments on the new album, which is supplemented by contributions from longtime collaborator Mark Ramos-Nishita, also known as Money Mark.
Snippets of songs from the new set can be heard streaming at the group's website, which also includes behind-the-scenes videos of the recording sessions for "The Mix-Up."
