Mick Jagger [ tickets ]'s career apart from The Rolling Stones [ tickets ] will get the overview treatment in October when Rhino Records releases "The Very Best of Mick Jagger."

The 17-track set will include material from all four of Jagger's solo efforts, as well as isolated recordings from various points in the singer/songwriter's career, and three previously unreleased performances.

Ten songs on the set are taken from Jagger's four albums: 1985's "She's the Boss"; 1987's "Primitive Cool"; 1993's "Wandering Spirit"; and his most recent, the 2001 release "Goddess in the Doorway."

The compilation includes "Memo From Turner," a track featuring Ry Cooder on slide guitar that appeared on the soundtrack to the 1970 film "Performance." Also featured are Jagger duets with David Bowie ("Dancing in the Street") and reggae star Peter Tosh ("(You Got to Walk And) Don't Look Back,") a cover of the Temptations hit, which was written by Smokey Robinson and Ronald White.

Also included is "Too Many Cooks (Spoil the Soup)," produced by John Lennon and recorded by Jagger in 1973 while fronting an all-star band (guitarists Danny Kortchmar and Jesse Ed Davis, keyboardist Al Kooper, bassist Jack Bruce, drummer Jim Keltner, and, on background vocals, singer-songwriter Harry Nilsson). The track was never officially released.

Additionally, the set includes two demos from Jagger's "Wandering Spirit" sessions with producer Rick Rubin: "Charmed Life," (with his daughter Karis on backing vocals) and a cover of Sonny Boy Williamson's "Checkin' Up on My Baby."

"It was such a disparate time with lots of ups and down--fortunately mostly up--like you do generally have in life," Jagger said in a press statement. "For me, it's a great thing to listen to since all the songs speak to a certain time and make things come alive for me."

The set is due in stores Oct. 2, with a digital version available the same day.
