Regina Spektor brings 'Hope' back to America

Regina Spektor has added another North American run to her tour, which has taken the singer/songwriter all over the world this year.

Following a UK jaunt in early September, the anti-folk songstress will launch a 20-date outing that will see her concentrate on the South, East and Midwestern US beginning Sept. 16 at the Austin City Limits Festival in Texas. She'll cross the boarder Oct. 11 for a gig in Toronto and make it to the West Coast for a single date--Oct. 30 in Los Angeles. North American concerts are listed below; those overseas can be found at Spektor's website.

The Russian-born, New York-raised performer is touring behind her major label debut, "Begin to Hope," which was released on Sire Records last summer. Recording in a studio--as opposed to her bedroom--allowed Spektor to express herself like never before, and evolve.

"Maybe I'm becoming less of a narrator and more of a character these days," Spektor explained in her bio. "I was always used to observing and writing third-person narrative stories about things I was seeing. Then, as time went on, I started placing myself in these scenes, more like an actor."

Songs from "Begin to Hope" are streaming at Spektor's website.

The classically trained pianist, who spent the first nine years of her life in Russia, built a grassroots following in and around New York City, selling self-produced CDs at hole-in-the-wall venues. One of those albums, "Soviet Kitsch," was re-released on Sire in 2003. Spektor began touring behind the set as an opening act but was the main attraction by year's end, going from 200-seat clubs to selling out 1,300-capacity venues, according to her bio.

The buzz around her grew as her music appeared in episodes of the television drams "CSI: NY" and "Grey's Anatomy."
