Queen Latifah [ tickets ] will hit the road next month for a US theater tour behind her upcoming album, "Trav'lin' Light."

The first round of dates begin Sept. 29 in Dallas and stick to the eastern half of the country until the outing wraps with two shows on the West Coast in mid-November. Details are included below.

Due in stores Sept. 25, "Trav'lin' Light" is Latifah's latest non-rap project, and features a blend of American pop, jazz and blues standards. It follows 2004's "The Dana Owens Album" (Latifah's real name), which scored a Grammy nomination for Best Jazz Vocal Album.

For "Trav'lin' Light," the rapper/singer/actress signed on with the Verve jazz label. She worked with Grammy-winning producer Tommy LiPuma (Barbra Streisand, Natalie Cole) and Geffen Records chairman Ron Fair, who produced several tracks on "The Dana Owens Album."

In addition to recording, Latifah has been busy with her film career, garnering rave reviews for her performance as DJ Motormouth Maybelle in "Hairspray" and picking up her first Emmy nomination for her portrayal of a real-life AIDS activist in the HBO movie "Life Support," which she co-produced with Jamie Foxx.

The Grammy-winning vocalist, known as one of the first bona-fide female rap stars, last year became the first hip-hop artist to be crowned with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, according to her record label.
