Cat Power covers new ground with fall dates
Chan Marshall--better known as Cat Power --returns to the road this fall for an outing that includes a gig opening for Interpol at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
The singer/songwriter hits Dallas on Friday (8/17) for a one-off show with her band before getting into a more serious touring mode beginning Sept. 14 with the NYC show. Most of her upcoming dates come in October, when she'll hit small theaters and larger nightclubs in eight cities. All dates are below.
Marshall will again be backed by The Memphis Rhythm Band, an all-star assemblage of Memphis session musicians, many of whom appear on her latest album, last year's "The Greatest."
The singer recently revealed on her MySpace page that she was working on a sequel to her 2000 album, "Covers Records." Marshall said in the posting that she's recorded 24 covers of various songs for the album, which is due on the Matador label in January, and mixed the record with engineer Stuart Sikes in a Dallas studio in early August.
"It's gonna be called, duh, 'Covers Record 2,'" Marshall wrote on the site.
Marshall recorded "The Greatest" in Memphis in 2005 with a group of veteran session players, including members of the Hi Records house band and Steve Potts, onetime drummer for Booker T and the MGs.
