Morrissey plans residencies on fall trek
Morrissey has added a fall run to his North American tour, and will play multi-show residencies in several major markets along the way.
The British alt-rock icon hit the road in April and has so far visited nearly 50 cities in the US. The final leg of the jaunt will kick off Sept. 20 in Tijuana, Mexico, and then hit US cities from coast to coast through early November.
The trek includes four performances in San Francisco, 10 in Los Angeles and five in New York City. Some of the gigs will make up for dates Morrissey canceled last month due to illness.
Alternative singer/songwriter Kristeen Young continues to fill the support slot on the tour, details of which are listed below.
Morrissey, who rose to prominence in the '80s as the singer for influential British band The Smiths, released his eighth solo album, "Ringleader of the Tormentors," last year. A few songs from the set are streaming at his MySpace page, where the full album is available for download.
In related news, Morrissey is the subject of a forthcoming film documentary, "Passions Just Like Mine," according to Urban Cowgirl Productions' website.
"What causes people to become obsessed over someone they don't know and have very little in common with? 'Passions Just Like Mine' will investigate this question," the production company explains at its website. "The stories will be told through the eyes of the fans themselves. ... We will follow these fans to Smiths tribute shows and Morrissey conventions as well as through neighborhoods and family homes."
The film is currently in postproduction.
Meanwhile, alt-rockers Fate or Trouble have recorded an uptempo version of "Everyday is Like Sunday," from Morrissey's 1988 solo debut. The track, which will be available at digital outlets tomorrow (8/21) and is currently streaming FOT's MySpace page, is from the band's debut album, due out next year.
