Jesus & Mary Chain plot new album on comeback trail

Reunited alt-rockers The Jesus and Mary Chain continue their comeback with new dates in October and the band confirming that it will soon enter the studio to work on a new album.

Brothers and founding members William and Jim Reid brought the group back from the dead earlier this year to make an appearance at April's Coachella music festival, as well as a pair of festivals in Spain. The new dates, which kick off Oct. 20 in Las Vegas, consist of five shows in four cities, with all shows featuring solo acoustic opening support from Lemonheads frontman Evan Dando. Dates are below.

In addition to the Reid brothers, the current lineup features Phil King on bass, Mark Crozer on guitar and Loz Colbert on drums. None of the three were members of the band during its previous active period

"The last Mary Chain gig was in 1998 and was such a bloody awful mess, too much drink, too many drugs, nobody seeing eye to eye on anything and the band just blew up," Reid said a press statement issued earlier this year announcing the festival appearances, "and I suppose you could say this is another good reason for our reformation, cause that was no way for the Mary Chain to end."

If the group's recording plans come to fruition, a resulting album would be the band's first since 1998's "Munki," a release which preceded the group's breakup by only a few months.

The band's former drummer, current Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie, told BBC digital radio station 6 Music in June that he would be happy to participate in the group's reunion, if they would only ask him.

"If they asked me I would play," Gillespie told a BBC interviewer. "I haven't played with them since 1985, you know. It was a long time ago. The last time I saw them play was '98 and then they split up three days later."
