Van Halen adds shows
Van Halen , who last week announced plans for a fall tour with reinstated frontman David Lee Roth at the helm, have added some new dates to the run after posting strong ticket sales over the weekend.
According to tour promoter Live Nation, the band's previously announced stops in Charlotte, NC; the Detroit area; Toronto; the Chicago area; and Philadelphia sold out shortly after tickets hit the box office. The group has since booked a second show at Philadelphia's Wachovia Center, a new stop at Detroit's Joe Louis Arena, and the tour's first Washington, DC, date. Tickets for the Philly and Detroit shows are scheduled to go on sale Saturday (8/25), while those for the Washington performance will roll out Friday (8/24), according to a press release.
The group's itinerary--which, as previously reported, begins in late September--now comprises a total of 29 shows that are scattered through mid-December. Details are shown below.
Van Halen's upcoming tour will be the band's first to feature Roth since the motor-mouthed frontman left the group in 1985. Ironically, the tour will not feature the group's original lineup, as guitarist Eddie Van Halen and drummer Alex Van Halen have replaced original bassist Michael Anthony with Eddie's 16-year-old son, Wolfgang Van Halen.
Anthony last toured with Van Halen during the group's 2004 reunion with vocalist Sammy Hagar , who took over for Roth from 1985 through 1996. That outing ended when Hagar and Eddie Van Halen had another falling out, and Anthony has since gone all-in with Hagar; the two have been touring together regularly, and, as previously reported, will head back out in October for a 60-date run that will feature the duo performing a slew of Van Halen material.
