Holidays bring new Dave Koz album, tour
Smooth-jazz saxman Dave Koz will feature material from a new album on his annual holiday outing.
The 10th anniversary edition of the Dave Koz and Friends A Smooth Jazz Christmas tour is set to kick off Nov. 26 in Baltimore, MD. So far, the US trek focuses primarily on the East Coast with a few gigs in the West, including a two-night stand in Cerritos, CA. Confirmed shows are listed below. More dates are expected to be added to the itinerary soon, according to Koz's website.
Friends scheduled to appear with the saxophonist include singer/guitarist Jonathan Butler , bassist Wayman Tisdale and "American Idol" finalist Kimberley Locke , who will all join Koz for holiday standards and perform hits from their respective catalogs.
Locke appears on Koz's forthcoming holiday album, "Memories of a Winter's Night," which is due Sept. 18. The set, which takes its name from the Koz-penned title track, features the saxman and special guests interpreting 12 holiday standards. Locke joins him for a soulful rendition of "Please Come Home for Christmas" while 20-year-old pop singer Kelly Sweet takes on the album's first single, "White Christmas." The record also has Brenda Russell pairing with Koz for "Boogie Woogie Santa Claus" and smooth jazz stars Rick Braun, Peter White and David Benoit joining in on a rendition of "Little Drummer Boy."
In January, Koz released his eighth studio album, "At The Movies," which pays homage to music from classic films. The Phil Ramone-produced set features a 40-piece orchestra and guest stars including Barry Manilow, Vanessa Williams, India.Aire, Anita Baker and Donna Summer. Several songs from the record are streaming at Koz's MySpace page.
The Dave Koz and Friends at the Movies Summer Tour with Benoit, Sweet and soul singer Phil Perry wrapped last month after an 11-week trek across the country. Between US tours, Koz will do a week-long residency in Japan next month. Details are available at his website.
The Grammy-nominated performer will also set sail for his third Dave Koz & Friends at Sea Cruise, which takes off from Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Nov. 4 and visits several ports-of-call in the Caribbean. Guests scheduled to perform on the cruise include Benoit, Gerald Albright, Marc Antoine, Norman Brown and Peabo Bryson, to name a few.
