The White Stripes bow out of US tour

The White Stripes have canceled the remainder of their US tour because drummer Meg White is suffering from acute anxiety and is unable to travel, according to the band.

"We hate to let people down and are very sorry," the duo said in a statement on their website.

Eighteen dates across the US, including Alaska and Hawaii, have been shelved and there's no word yet as to whether they will be rescheduled. At the moment, The White Stripes' October/November tour of the UK is still on. The canceled shows and UK tour schedule can be found at the band's website.

After a two-year hiatus, the Detroit garage-rockers kicked off a world tour in June to support their latest release, "Icky Thump." So far, they've played Europe, Canada and several states in the eastern US that they had yet to visit in their career.

"Icky Thump," released in June, is The White Stripes' sixth studio album and marks the duo's 10-year anniversary. The set reached No. 2 on The Billboard 200 and the title track is a No. 1 modern rock hit. The video for the latest single, "You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do As You're Told)," is streaming at The White Stripes' MySpace page.

"Icky Thump" follows 2005's "Get Behind Me Satan," which won a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album.
