Westlife Singer Illness Rumors Refuted
LONDON-- Westlife singer Bryan McFadden rejoined the Irish pop group in the U.S. on Sunday (6/4) after a short trip home to Dublin to recover from exhaustion.
On Tuesday (6/6), various U.K. tabloids reported rumors that he had collapsed after a New York radio show and was so weak that he had to be put in a wheelchair. However, a spokesperson from Westlife's U.K. record label RCA told liveDaily that these reports were "exaggerated."
"It is untrue that Bryan collapsed in New York," said the spokesperson. "And he does not have glandular fever again. He was feeling rundown after all of the touring and the group agreed that he should go home for a rest. He suffered from glandular fever last year and they wanted to make sure he didn't get it again."
Westlife is currently in the U.S. promoting its self-titled debut album and new single "Swear It Again." The single is currently No. 32 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, while "Westlife" is No. 168 on the Billboard 200 Chart.
In contrast to its weak U.S. sales, "Westlife" has gone triple platinum in the U.K., selling over 900,000 copies and holding fast at No. 21 after 31 weeks on the Official U.K. Album Chart.
