Maximo Park brings 'Pleasures' to America
British indie-rockers Maximo Park are on their way back to North America for their second tour of the continent this year--this time for an outing with Scotland's Travis .
The November trek starts mid-month with a few dates in Canada and then makes its way down the West Coast. Details are listed below.
Before storming through America with its high-energy show, Maximo Park will do a two-week stint in the UK that has sold out in advance, according to a press release. The October run includes three nights at London's Brixton Academy. Details for those shows can be found at the band's website.
Maximo Park is supporting its sophomore effort, "Our Earthly Pleasures," which surfaced in April. The set was produced by Gil Norton (Foo Fighters, Pixies), who helped make the album heavier than the band's 2005 Mercury Music Prize-nominated debut, "A Certain Trigger," according to Maximo Park's bio.
"We're very proud of our first album, but we didn't want to do that again," frontman Paul Smith said in a statement.
As the band's musical style evolves, one thing stays consistent: its explosive live show.
"I think we've excelled as a live band whether it was in front of 100,000 Rolling Stones fans or in more intimate venues," Smith said, comparing Maximo's Park's energy to that of Iggy Pop.
"I watched a 'South Bank Show' on him where he explained how he really gives everything and more of himself to every performance, so much so that he's exhausted, sapped of all energy, afterwards. We're exactly like that as well."
"Girls Who Play Guitars," the third single from "Our Earthly Pleasures," was released last month and is streaming at Maximo Park's MySpace page alongside a couple of other tracks from the album.
