Van Halen tacks on more dates

A week ahead of their tour launch, rock gods Van Halen --with original frontman David Lee Roth--continue to add dates to their itinerary, which now spans 35 shows.

The North American tour shoves off Sept. 27 in Charlotte, NC, and makes its way across the US with several stops in Canada through late December. Since last check, dates have been added in Montreal; Anaheim, CA; and Oakland, CA, where the outing is currently scheduled to wrap Dec. 22. Details are listed below.

So far, Van Halen has sold out shows in Charlotte, NC; Philadelphia; Boston; Washington, DC; and two each in Toronto, the Chicago area and the Detroit area, according to information from tour promoter Live Nation and Van Halen's website. West Coast concerts, which make up the final third of the itinerary, go on sale beginning Saturday (9/22).

Urban/reggae artist Ky-Mani Marley, who has a new album due Sept. 25, will open the tour.

Van Halen has reunited with Roth after 22 years. Though the charismatic frontman is back in the band, the rockers will not be sporting their original lineup on the road. Guitarist Eddie Van Halen's 16-year-old son, Wolfgang, will take the place of original bassist Michael Anthony, who's been playing regularly with former VH frontman Sammy Hagar. The Red Rocker and Anthony will feature their own set of Van Halen material in a 60-date run that launches next month.

VH is on the short list of artists who have scored two Diamond Awards, signifying album sales of 10 million or more, according to a press release. The recently inducted Rock and Roll Hall of Famers earned the honor with their 1978 self-titled debut and again with "1984." They are also in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the most No. 1 hits on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart.
