Chuck Prophet cleans up fall trek with 'Soap'

Indie roots-rocker Chuck Prophet will follow the early October release of his first album in three years with a headlining tour that reaches into December.

The singer/guitarist, who toured last year with a reunited version of his original band, '80s indie rockers Green on Red, will kick off his longest outing in more than two years Oct. 21 in San Francisco.

Backing Prophet during the 26-city tour will be The Mission Express, a four-piece band that includes keyboardist/vocalist Stephanie Finch and drummer Todd Roper, who both appear in the same roles on Prophet's latest studio set, "Soap & Water."

The forthcoming album, which is Prophet's debut release on the Yep Roc label, is due in stores Oct. 2. The set features a dozen original songs that Prophet and company recorded in both his San Francisco hometown as well as Nashville, according to a press release.

The disc is Prophet's first studio release since 2004's "Age of Miracles." In between albums, the singer/guitarist has kept busy by producing and co-writing country singer Kelly Willis' latest album, "Translated From Love," and co-writing several songs for singer/songwriter Alejandro Escovedo's next album.

Several cuts from "Soap & Water" are streaming at Prophet's MySpace page.
