Chris Cornell expands US tour
Grunge-rocker Chris Cornell has added another run of dates to his North American outing, which he began last spring to support his latest solo effort, "Carry On."
The former Audioslave and Soundgarden frontman previously announced a 10-date tour of the Western US and Canada, which starts tonight (9/25) in Winnipeg, Manitoba. That will be followed by a two-week jaunt in New Zealand and Australia, after which Cornell will return to the US for another round of dates that stretch into late November. North American shows are listed below; those overseas can be found at Cornell's website.
Last month, the singer was sidelined by strained vocal cords and had to cancel a string of shows in Poland, Hungary and Austria. A statement at his website says he will reschedule those gigs as soon as possible.
Earlier this year, Cornell announced his departure from Audioslave due to "irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences." He simultaneously announced the release of his sophomore solo album, "Carry On," which surfaced in June and reached No. 17 on The Billboard 200 chart.
The new record, Cornell's first solo set since 1999's "Euphoria Morning," includes the song "You Know My Name," which first turned up in last year's James Bond film "Casino Royale." The album's lead single, "No Such Thing," has made waves at mainstream rock radio and is streaming at Cornell's MySpace page along with a couple of other cuts.
"Carry On" marks Cornell's 13th career album, according to his bio. The Grammy-winning singer's third and final recording with Audioslave was last year's "Revelations." Questions about the group's future arose when Audioslave announced that it had no plans to tour behind the set and that Cornell was working on a solo album. The singer's former bandmates have since reunited as Rage Against the Machine with singer Zack de la Rocha.
