Dave Koz spreads more holiday cheer

Saxman Dave Koz has added a handful of dates to the 10th anniversary edition of his "Dave Koz and Friends: A Smooth Jazz Christmas" tour.

The trek is now set to kick off Nov. 23 in Lake Tahoe, CA, and visit cities from coast to coast, with a two-night finale Dec. 21-22 in Cerritos, CA. Other stops added to the itinerary since last check include Denver; Chicago; Detroit; Temecula, CA; Oakland, CA; and Tacoma, WA. Details are listed below.

Friends scheduled to appear on the outing include singer/guitarist Jonathan Butler, bassist Wayman Tisdale and "American Idol" finalist Kimberley Locke, who will all join Koz for holiday standards and perform hits from their respective catalogs.

Locke appears on Koz's new holiday album, "Memories of a Winter's Night," which hit the streets last week. The set takes its name from the Koz-penned title track and features the saxman and special guests interpreting 12 holiday standards. Locke joins him for a soulful rendition of "Please Come Home for Christmas" while 20-year-old pop singer Kelly Sweet takes on the album's first single, "White Christmas." The record also has Brenda Russell pairing with Koz for "Boogie Woogie Santa Claus" and smooth-jazz stars Rick Braun, Peter White and David Benoit joining in on a rendition of "Little Drummer Boy."

On tour, Koz will also perform selections from his latest non-holiday album, "At The Movies," which topped Billboard's Contemporary Jazz chart for 12 weeks this summer. That Phil Ramone-produced set pays homage to music from classic films and features a 40-piece orchestra with guest stars including Barry Manilow, Vanessa Williams, India.Aire, Anita Baker and Donna Summer. Songs from the record are streaming at Koz's website.

Before the holiday tour rolls around, the saxophonist will stay busy with a week-long residency in Japan next month and the Dave Koz & Friends at Sea Cruise, which takes off from Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Nov. 4 and visits several ports of call in the Caribbean. Information about those events can be found at Koz's website.
