Singer/songwriter Vic Chesnutt [ tickets ] will take his latest album on the road during a headlining club tour this fall through the Southern US states.

The Athens, GA-based Chesnutt will be backed onstage by singer Liz Durrett and indie rock trio Ham1, with both acts also serving as show openers during the outing, which kicked off last week in Knoxville and continues Saturday (9/29) in Asheville, NC. Eight cities remain on the trek, which plays to clubs and small theaters and runs through the third week of October. Dates are listed below.

Released Sept. 11, "North Star Deserter" is the singer's 11th full-length studio album in a recording career that dates back to 1990's "Little," which was produced by Chesnutt's most ardent celebrity backer at the time, R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe

Brooklyn-based filmmaker Jem Cohen (Benjamin Smoke, Instrument) oversaw the new album's production, with input from Fugazi's Guy Picciotto, and Efrim and Thierry from Canadian experimental group A Silver Mt. Zion. The completed CD came out of the last sessions to take place at the original Hotel2Tango studio in Montreal before the operation changed locations.

All seven members of A Silver Mt. Zion appear on the album, along with Picciotto, Bruce Cawdron of Godspeed! You Black Emperor, and T. Griffin from The Quavers.
