Eminem Pleads Not Guilty To Weapons, Assault Charges
update: Eminem was formally charged on Wednesday (6/7) with one count of carrying a concealed weapon and one count of assault with a deadly weapon in connection with an after-hours dispute outside of a Warren, Mich., nightclub. Shortly after he entered a not-guilty plea, the Grammy-winning rapper was free on a $100,000 bond.
Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, was among four people arrested following the dispute on Sunday (6/4). Prosecutors allege that Eminem hit a man over the head with an unloaded gun after he saw the man kissing his wife Kim.
Under the terms laid out by a judge in Warren, Mich., Eminem will be allowed to go on tour--he is scheduled to appear on the upcoming "Up In Smoke" tour with Dr. Dre and others--but he must give county prosecutors his itinerary whenever he travels outside of Michigan. In addition, he will not be allowed to carry a firearm or to have contact with the man he allegedly assaulted. Eminem's next court appearance is scheduled for July 11, an off-date for the tour.
In a letter published on Wednesday in the Detroit Free Press, Kim Mathers (also known as Kim Scott) denied allegations that she was having a romantic liaison at the bar.
"Had [Eminem] asked any questions before he flew off the handle, he would have realized that everyone with me (both male and female) were only friends. The fact that he just jumped to conclusions has gotten him and myself in trouble," she wrote.
