Radiohead fans can pick their price for new album
Radiohead will release a new studio album Oct. 10, and allow fans to pick their own price when ordering the digital-download version of the album, which will be titled "In Rainbows."
The band made the surprise announcement on its website this morning (10/1), following days of unusual activity on the site, including mysterious coded messages from the band. Fans who logged onto the site Monday found the following announcement from guitarist Jonny Greenwood:
"Hello everyone. Well, the new album is finished, and it's coming out in 10 days; we've called it 'In Rainbows.' Love from us all. Jonny."
The group--which currently is without a record label--will release two different versions of the album. The physical version will consist of 10 new tracks and eight bonus songs on a second disc, and be sold as a "discbox," including both CD and vinyl versions. The set will sell for UK £40 (about $82 US), and will initially be available only for mail-order purchase through Radiohead 's website. The box will include photos and artwork in a hardcover book included with the album's slipcase.
The album will also be available as a digital download, with purchasers asked to choose their own price for the set. "It's up to you," reads a message on the site that appears when the album is pre-ordered and an accompanying question mark is clicked.
The band left its longtime record label EMI in 2005, and has made no moves since then to ink a new distribution deal.
