Progressive bluegrass trio Nickel Creek [ tickets ] has extended its "Farewell (for now) Tour" through the end of November.

The new leg kicks off Oct. 11 in Knoxville, TN, and the Grammy-winning group will stick primarily to the eastern half of the US, with one West Coast date booked Nov. 18 in West Hollywood, CA. A two-night finale is scheduled Nov. 28-29 at Nashville's historic Ryman Auditorium. Details are listed below.

Guest artists scheduled to take turns on the tour include Bela Fleck, Dave (Gruber) Allen, Bruce Molsky and Tom Brosseau. Information about which act is featured on each date is available at Nickel Creek's website.

The trek follows a 14-date August run that paired Nickel Creek with singer/songwriter Fiona Apple.

Last year, the members of the trio announced that, after seven straight years of touring, they will part ways indefinitely to focus on individual projects. Mandolin player Chris Thile hit the road to support his solo material earlier this year and recently did some dates with The Punch Brothers. The sibling team of guitarist Sean Watkins and violinist Sara Watkins have been doing gigs as The Watkins Family Hour and each plan to branch out on their own, as well.

In 2005, Nickel Creek released its third Sugar Hill Records album, "Why Should the Fire Die?," which scored two Grammy nominations. The band followed that with last November's best-of CD/DVD, "Reasons Why: The Very Best," which includes 14 tracks and seven videos.
