George Strait offers fans pre-tour hits album
George Strait is set to release another album of hits ahead of his upcoming US arena tour.
"22 More Hits," which is scheduled to drop Nov. 13, is billed as a perfect companion to the country star's 2004 multiplatinum-selling set, "50 Number Ones." The forthcoming collection comprises 22 singles that reached hit status, even though they didn't top the radio charts.
"I've had people ask me why this song or that song wasn't on the 'Number Ones' album," Strait said in a statement. "If it's their favorite song, I guess they don't care if it was number one on a chart. This album gave me the chance to include some of the fans' other favorites and mine."
"22 More Hits" will house songs spanning Strait's 26-year career, including his latest single, "How 'Bout Them Cowgirls." That tune is off last year's "It Just Comes Natural," Strait's 34th studio album and 32nd to be certified platinum, according to a press release. The set spawned his 55th No. 1 single, "Wrapped."
Meanwhile, the singer is looking ahead to next year with a previously announced US tour that will kick off Jan. 10 in Austin, TX. The itinerary, which is listed below, currently shows dates booked across the country into March, but additional performances are expected, according to a press release. Grammy-nominated group Little Big Town, which has a new album due next month, will serve as special guests on the outing.
Strait, who has won more than 50 entertainment industry honors, is looking to continue his streak at next month's Country Music Association Awards, where he's up for seven more trophies, including Entertainer of the Year, Male Vocalist and Album of the Year. During his career, the singer has logged 70 CMA nominations and has been voted Vocalist of the Year five times.
