Trail of Dead, Dethklok launch second Adult Swim tour
Alt-rockers ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead headline the next installment of Adult Swim Presents, with second billing going to cartoon band Dethklok.
The college campus shows, which kick off Oct. 29 at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, represent the second round of concerts promoted by Cartoon Network's Adult Swim program.
The 12-campus hard rock version of the concert series follows a previously announced (and partially concurrent) rap-themed Adult Swim tour featuring Ghostface Killah. As with earlier shows, the concerts are free to college students, and those wishing to attend can obtain a ticket through Adult Swim's tour website.
Trail of Dead's most recent studio album, "So Divided," hit stores last November. The set, which is the Texas band's follow-up to 2005's "Worlds Apart," includes guest appearances from King Crimson drummer Pat Mastelotto and singer/pianist Amanda Palmer, one half of The Dresden Dolls.
The band recently completed a 25-date European tour, the largest outing it had ever attempted overseas. "It was eye-opening, that's for sure," Trail of Dead frontman Jason Reece told the Associated Press in September. "We met a lot of people we hadn't met before and experienced a lot of things we'd never experienced before."
The lower half of the marquee features "the undisputed greatest animated metal band in the galaxy," according to a Dethklok press release. The animated rock stars, created by Brendan Small and Tommy Blacha, star in their own Adult Swim show, "Metalocalypse."
"We are most metally honored to be able to shred for the minds of the collegiate institutions of the United States of Metal America," said Small in a press statement. "Their blood will surge in the wake of our destruction."
Dethklok's debut album, "The Dethalbum," was released in September.
Editor's note: This story was edited on 10/18 to reflect the fact that tickets will be available free only to college students.
