George Jones plans ahead
Country music legend George Jones shows no signs of slowing down, as his tour itinerary now stretches through October of next year.
The performer, who celebrated his 76th birthday last month and continues to headline nearly 100 dates a year, has been playing all over the US since July. He'll continue tonight (10/19) in Las Vegas and then make his way around the Midwest, South and East into December. The new year will find him playing a host of scattered US dates well into next fall. Details are listed below.
Jones' name is on more than 1,000 album titles, according to his bio. One of his most recent offerings is last year's "God's Country," which features an all-star lineup (including Jones himself) performing many of the Country Music Hall of Famer's classics.
March saw the release of "George Jones: 40 Years of Duets," a 20-song collection that starts with Jones' first charting duet, 1957's "Yearning" with Jeanette Hicks. The album includes several tunes with Jones' former wife Tammy Wynette, as well as '90s duets with contemporary country stars such as Randy Travis and Alan Jackson.
Jones, who has sustained his music career for 53 years, is a two-time Grammy winner and a recipient of the 2002 National Medal of Arts Honor. His 1980 hit "He Stopped Loving Her Today," a constant on "best country song of all time" lists, was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame earlier this year.
The singer has more than 1,000 songs under his belt and has charted 166 singles--more than any other artist in any music format, according to his bio.
