Cake opens curtains to let more Sunshine dates in
The touring revue, which returned for its third incarnation early in 2006 after skipping a few years, will kick off Nov. 28 in Anaheim, CA, sporting a lineup that includes The Detroit Cobras on the tour's West Coast dates and Brazilian Girls on the tour's Eastern leg, as well as Oakley Hall , King City and Agent Ribbons at all shows. Dates for the tour are included below.
Past versions of Cake's Unlimited Sunshine Tour have included performances from The Flaming Lips, Modest Mouse, Tegan and Sara, De La Soul and many others. The first event took place in 2002.
Cake's fifth and most recent full-length studio album was 2004's "Pressure Chief." The band continues to work on new projects, however; a compilation album, "B-Sides and Rarities," saw release in early October, featuring the California group's covers of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" and Barry White's "Never, Never Gonna Give You Up," among other oddities.
A limited edition version of the album features a bonus track--the band's live version of "War Pigs" with a guest appearance by Steven Drozd of The Flaming Lips--along with a scratch-and-sniff cover.
Additionally, the band's first-ever live album, "Live at the Crystal Palace," originally due last fall, was pushed back to a possible late 2007/early 2008 release because of the group's "strict quality control enforcement," according to its website.
