Spice Girls push reunion tour into 2008
Responding what has turned out to be strong demand for their upcoming reunion tour, the Spice Girls have expanded the run significantly.
Originally due to play a handful of North American shows in early December, the Girls have now booked a return trip to the continent next February. Following the tour's Dec. 2 launch in Vancouver, British Columbia, the group will play a single night in San Jose, CA, a two-night stand in Los Angeles and a three-night run in Las Vegas before heading back across the pond to tackle a stretch of European shows that includes a 17-night stand at London's O2 Arena spread across December and January.
The Girls are now scheduled to return to North America in February for two-night stands in Toronto; Uniondale, NY; and Newark, NJ, as well as a one-off engagement in East Rutherford, NJ. Details for all of the North American shows are listed below.
The Spice Girls sold out their originally scheduled Dec. 15 O2 Arena gig in 38 seconds, prompting the addition of 16 more shows. The group's world tour is also scheduled to visit Cologne, Madrid, Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Sydney, Cape Town and Buenos Aires through late January. Information about overseas dates can be found at the Spice Girls' website.
In advance of the tour, the Spice Girls are set to release a best-of set via an exclusive partnership with retailer Victoria's Secret. "Spice Girls: Greatest Hits"--which features 13 of the British group's best-selling singles, two new songs and three downloadable remixes--will be available only in Victoria's Secret stores in the US and on the company's website for a two-month period beginning Nov. 13.
The album will then be available nationwide Jan. 15, at which time Capitol Music Group will release a deluxe edition including a DVD with all of the Spice Girls' promotional videos. The label will also offer a gift-box version with CD, DVD, karaoke disc and bracelet.
The Spice Girls--Victoria Beckham, Mel B., Emma Bunton, Melanie C. and Geri Halliwell--burst onto the scene in the mid-'90s and topped radio charts with the song "Wannabe," which broke the record for the highest debut by a British band on Billboard's Hot 100, according to a press release. The group went on to sell 55 million albums worldwide.
The upcoming reunion run brings the quintet back together for the first time in six years. Halliwell left the group in 1998 and the remaining members parted ways in 2001.
