Babyface works out 'Playlist' for winter trek
R&B singer Kenneth " Babyface " Edmonds returns to the club circuit this winter behind a new album, "Playlist," a collection of covers of familiar album-oriented rock material.
The veteran vocalist/songwriter/producer kicks off with a Nov. 11 date in Cabazon, CA, and has 10 dates lined up for November and December, including a Dec. 1 visit to his hometown of Indianapolis, IN, which boats a 25-mile section of Interstate 65 named after the performer.
Released in September, "Playlist" follows 2005's "Grown & Sexy," which was the singer's first CD since 2001's "Face2Face."
"These songs came from memories, and these songs helped shape who I am--and they're still shaping who I am," Edmonds said in a press release.
Among the artists Edmonds picked to cover on the album are Eric Clapton ("Wonderful Tonight"); James Taylor ("Shower the People" and "Fire and Rain"); and Bob Dylan ("Knockin' on Heaven's Door").
Babyface, who is perhaps better known as a producer and songwriter than as a singer, was one of the most successful hitmakers of the '90s. He has worked with such artists as Eric Clapton, Whitney Houston, Madonna, Mary J. Blige and Boyz II Men, the boy-band that achieved chart-dominating success with the Babyface-penned singles "End of the Road" and "I'll Make Love to You."
