John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers support 'The King'
British-blues godfather John Mayall and his band, The Bluesbreakers, will continue touring the US next month with a handful of gigs on the West Coast.
The group, which wrapped a run of shows in the Midwest a week ago, will start up again Nov. 9 in Anaheim, CA, and play several dates around California and Oregon through mid-month. Details are listed below.
John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers are supporting their April release, "In the Palace of the King," which pays tribute to the late, great Freddie King. The set is Mayall's 56th album in a career that spans four decades. The title track is streaming at his MySpace page.
"In the Palace of the King" follows last year's "Essentially John Mayall," a five-CD boxed set that coincided with the 40th anniversary of the classic "Bluesbreakers" album with Eric Clapton. The collection comprises studio albums "Padlock on the Blues," "Along for the Ride" and "Stories" together with a single-disc version of Mayall's "70th Birthday Concert" and a disc of previously unreleased live and session tracks from the bluesman's personal archive.
Mayall, who turns 74 next month, is perhaps just as well known as a bandleader and mentor as he is as a performer. His band has served as a training ground for guitar greats including Clapton, Mick Taylor and Jack Bruce, as well as Fleetwood Mac members John McVie, Mick Fleetwood and Peter Green.
The Bluesbreakers' current lineup comprises guitarist Buddy Whittington, drummer Joe Yuele and bassist Hank Van Sickle.
