Van Morrison returns to the US on 'Top'
Veteran Irish singer/songwriter Van Morrison lines up a few US dates late this year and gets ready to drop another career-spanning retrospective on fans.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer currently has only a pair of two-night engagements on his calendar: Dec. 27-28 in San Francisco, and Dec. 29-30 in Dallas, although the singer's website indicates that more shows will be announced soon.
Pre-sale tickets for the shows go on sale today (11/1) through Morrison's official website.
On Nov. 6, Morrison releases "Still On Top - The Greatest Hits," a 21-track career retrospective that includes remastered versions of the 59-year-old singer's biggest hits from 1964 (as frontman of Irish pop/rockers Them) through his 2005 studio release, "Magic Time."
The singer's most recent studio album, last year's "Pay the Devil," includes 12 covers of country classics, among them Hank Williams' "Your Cheatin' Heart" and "Things Have Gone to Pieces," originally performed by George Jones. The set also features three original Morrison compositions.
Morrison became a solo star in the late '60s and early '70s; his best-known albums include "Astral Weeks," "Moondance" and "Tupelo Honey."
A native of Belfast, Northern Ireland, Morrison was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.
